The centre of this area-the roundabout between Samora Avenue and Maktaba Street marked by the Askari Monument, the first statue on this spot was erected in 1911 and depicted (represented) Hermann von Wissmann-solder, explorer and governor who played a key role in the German development of the city.

Tanzania National Museum: Established in 1940 as king George V Memorial Museum. It is rather smaller than you‘d expect for a national showcase, but it briefly covers pretty much every aspect of Tanzanian culture history, from prehistoric hominid fossils through to colonialism and independence.

Botanical Garden: Opposite the Museum at the Eastern end of Samora Avenue, date from German time and offer a shady oasis of piece and a wonderful escape from the city. Garden are reasonable well tended, and contains dozens of species of palm trees and raucous (harsh) population of peacocks. Botanical Garden, which was established by the Germans in 1906.The garden still having the same colorful enchanting (delightful) flavor of flowers and plants

Karimjee Hall: Now closed to the public, this stately white building was the former house of parliament before the legislature was relocated to Dodoma, and is where Julius Nyerere was sworn in as president. Today it is used for parliament committee meetings and political function,

Ocean Road Cancer Hospital: Built in1886 as the German Malaria Research Laboratory. This was where Richard Koch, who in 1905 was awarded a Nobel Laureate for his discovery of tuberculin (wrongly believed to be cure of TB),  On 1st October 1997 Ocean Road Hospital in Dar es Salaam commemorated one hundred years of its existence.

State House: Originally dating from German times, it was damaged by British shelling during WW 1 and partially reconstructed during 1919-22. Its ornate structure blends elements f African Arabian architecture, and currently houses the Office of President – which means no photography.

Ferry Fish Market: Kivukoni/Ferry Fish Market is housed in a new structure on Dar es Salaam's seafront.    Boats deliver their catch at dawn directly to the market. Wade in for red snapper, lobster, prawns, squid, barracuda and shellfish fresh from the Indian Ocean. The Market is daily open from dawn to late evening and frequently busy

Azania Front Lutheran Church: It’s located along Kivukoni bay; it’s among the earliest churches built in the Country, where by it built in 1905 by Germans during colonial time. With a red-roofed belfry overlooking the water and a rather stern Gothic interior, this mad it to be one of city’s major landmarks.

St Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral: It built in 1897, is a major city landmark and good place to experience Dar’s vibrant church music (kwaya), best heard during Sunday Mass. The cathedral is notable for its twin confessionals facing the altar, one in Baroque style, the other in Gothic,

Independence torch monument (Mnazi mmoja) a wonderful area near the centre, with the Uhuru Torch Monument, built to celebrate the country's independence in 1961.This is near Jamhuri and Uhuru Streets. On one side is seen the Uhuru Torch Monument erected to symbolize the Freedom Torch placed at the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro upon Tanzania's attainment of independence. On the other side of the park is the Republic Fountain which commemorated the foundation of the republic in 1962

Kariakoo Market: Visit the famous ancient Kariakoo Market. It is a largest market throughout East Africa. The name “Kariakoo” dates from WW1, when, after the expulsion (kick out) of Germans in the city in 1916, thousand of Tanzanians were conscripted (recruited) into the hated British carrier Corps to serve as war porters.

Their Barracks were erected on the site of the present market on the patch of empty ground that has been earmark (mark down) for Ceremonial (official) Park in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm 11.
